Self-Reflection Progression: Line Drawing
Made out of mild steel.

Self-Reflection Progression: Portrait
Faux limestone and brass.
Plaque reads, "Self-Reflection Progression consists of three variations of the same image: a line drawing made of a circular mild steel with a flat bar frame; a tonal terrazzo relief composted of a terrazo medallion in a stainless steel frame; and dimensional portrait made of faux limestone in a solid brass frame. The work alludes to the potentiality for an ever increasing depth and dimensionality of our humanity. Upon reflection, we might realize that what we saw when we looked into a mirror as a youth was a mere sketch or simple portrait of our ultimate human potential (line drawing). As out studies and experiences progress, the simple outline transforms and our self-reflection becomes more nuanced and dimensional (terazzo piece). Portrait is the culminating piece in the series of portraits and represent a further stage of growth and development, an emergence from mere reflection, and thus a progression of greater value."
Located on the first floor of Bellamy Hall.

Washing Clothes at the Creek
WWII-Tent Life/New Guinea.
Ink drawing of two men by a creek with buildings and trucks in the background.
Verso: "Nov. 25, 1944. Two men boiling clothes at the creek. One stirs the clothes while the othe [sic] gathers wood for fuel. The lack of clothing is accounted for by the fact that the boys bathe while washing. Clothes lines are hung from the trees for drying clothes. The creek is in a small ravine just to the rear of the men. On the opposite bank are telephone poles on the left and trailers on the right. The tree at the right looks as if it had been shot off as does the stump just to the right of it. This is undoubtedly so since there are many Jap pillboxes around, all destroyed."
Maurice explained that the 50 gallon drums were used for everything. in this case to create a stove for boiling water to clean their clothes.

Dental Clinic
WWII-Services/New Guinea.
Ink drawing of men receiving dental treatment, while others sit, waiting on a bench reading a book or newspaper.
Verso: "29 January 1945. Drawn while I was waiting to have my teeth filled in a surprisingly well equipped dental clinic. A company of colored boys had their teeth examined and those not found to pass the scrutiny were seated in the waiting 'room' looking very dejected indeed. Even as I must have looked."

Dispensary
WWII-Services/New Guinea.
Ink drawing of an open front building with a flag on top, labeled, "Dispensary." Non-descriptive people inside, two outside and the hood of a jeep in the left foreground.
Verso: "Thursday - 21 Dec 44. This is the dispensary to which I went to have that charley horse taken care of. It is the dispensary at the negro outfit near us and and since its the nearest one to the clerk's school we go there. The doctor is white and all the enlisted men are colored. The bulletin beside the entrance is a pin up board covered with negress pinup girls. The round bunches on the tree in the left part of the picture are betel nuts (so I am told) and are chewed by the natives. They are said to be mildly intoxicant and discolor the teeth of the chewer, staining them red & giving them a perpetual 'pink tooth brush' appearance."
Maurice explained when you went to dispensary you went there because you weren't feeling well enough to work. The guys in charge of the unit would think that you were all goofing off if you took time to go to the dispensary. So if you didn't get sent to the hospital, they would put you to work cleaning M1 Garand rifles left over from WWI with gasoline so would be sure to be sick.

Fluid Movement
Four large bending steel structures jutting out of the ground.
The accompanying plaque next to the sculpture reads, "'Fluid Movement' captures the power and joy of human movement. Like the mirrored surface of a lake on a calm day, each element becomes like water itself, reflecting the sky and expanging the space around it in an ever-enchanting way. Situated in this rain garden (storm retention basin), Fluid Movement supports the ideas inherent to this sustainable feature. The sculptural arms also reference the nearby swimming pool which was a central feature of Old PE prior to remodling.""
